Marco Fusinato, Desastres performance, PAC – PAC – Padiglione d’Arte Contemporanea, Milan.
Entering Marco Fusinato’s The Only True Anarchy Is That of Power at the Padiglione d’Arte Contemporanea (PAC) means being engulfed by a pulsating, overwhelming environment. The gallery spaces lose their neutrality, becoming a territory permeated by noise, images and tension. Sound spreads like a physical presence, while visual repetition establishes an obsessive rhythm evocative of protest, rupture and insistence. The exhibition offers no respite. Every element seems to act upon the body before reaching the mind, generating an unstable perception suspended between attraction and unease. The atmosphere is charged, almost electric, with visual fragments and sonic impulses accumulating to create a constant pressure and a sense of restrained alarm that permeates the entire exhibition.
At the heart of this experience is Desastres, the monumental installation- performance that establishes Fusinato as an active presence within the work itself. Every day from 5 pm to 7 pm, the artist occupies the PAC's spaces with his electric guitar, creating an ongoing stream of sound and images. The performance unfolds like an open organism without a beginning or definitive conclusion, fuelled by unpredictable frequencies and spontaneous connections.
The images in Desastres unfold in great detail: manuscripts and historical figures emerge like apparitions.
The images unfold like sudden apparitions, revealing details from art history and manuscripts alongside figures of lute players, references to Francisco Goya’s Caprichos and images of animals, bodies and mass graves. The journey takes the form of a disturbed archive, in which memory and violence coexist within the same visual space. Nothing is explained; everything emerges.
Among the works is Mass Black Implosion (2007–present), a series in which a black line traverses musical scores, disrupting their conventional reading. This erases sequence, alters time, and transforms the score into a surface of friction. Music ceases to be order and becomes trace, interruption and possibility.

The final project room showcases Fusinato’s solo work from 2009 to the present day. The exhibited vinyl records form a coherent constellation dominated by black and white — colours that run throughout the exhibition as markers of essentiality and radicalism.
The noise aesthetic that permeates Fusinato’s work explicitly evokes Luigi Russolo’s The Art of Noises, returning sound to a primal state capable of affecting space and altering perception.
Upon leaving PAC, a persistent vibration lingers. The images blur together while the noise continues in the mind like an echo that refuses to fade. The sensation is that of having passed through something that continues to move long after the visit has ended.
